Teen Digital Book Project Q & A
Q. What exactly is it?
A. It’s a fancy way of saying that we’re creating a literary magazine in book format.
Q. So it’s a book? Do I have to write something?
A. Only if you like to write. The Digital Book will showcase teens’ creativity in multiple formats. You can submit drawings, paintings, photography, short stories, poetry … the list goes on.
Q. Okay then. How do I submit something?
A. Easy! If it’s already in a digital format (something you can email, like a digital photo or a Word document) just email it to [email protected] . From there I will add it to the book we are creating using a program called BookSmart.
Q. Uh oh, my artwork isn’t in a digital format. What now?
A. Not a problem. We have 2 options. We can take a digital photo of your artwork or if it is a smaller piece (the size of a piece of paper or smaller) we can photocopy and scan it.
Q. What happens after you have all the submissions?
A. The fun part – making the book. I will upload the submissions into the BookSmart program. We can choose fonts and layout options to make it look really professional. When it’s finished, we will upload the project unto Blurb.com and they will create the physical book for us.
Q. When do you need us to send you the submissions? I need some time to work on it!
A. No problem. I’d like to have the submissions by August 1 so we can play around with the layout a bit.
Q. I’d like to help with the layout, what can I do?
A. Great! Let me know if you are interested by emailing me at [email protected]. We will meet on Monday, August 17 at 7:00 in TeenSpace. We can schedule other meetings if need be. I’d like to have the book finished before school starts in September.
Q. I’m drawing a blank – what topics show I be writing about/photographing/drawing?
A. It’s really up to you, but to help you get some ideas and to help us organize the book into chapters, I have some prompts that you can use. If you need help, stop by TeenSpace to pick up some idea prompts or email me and I’ll send you some.
Q. What happens to the book once it’s finished?
A. The library will purchase a copy to add to the permanent collection and it will be available on Blurb.com for purchase if you want your own copy.
