Artemis Fowl (2020)
Artemis Fowl, a science-fiction and fantasy movie based on the novels by Eoin Colfer, directed by Kenneth Branagh, came out on the 12th of June, 2020, and is consequently about a boy named Artemis Fowl (Ferdia Shaw). Artemis is a 12-year old genius and criminal mastermind. After his father’s disappearance, Artemis realizes that the fantasy world of fairies and dwarves may coexist with reality he lives in. Artemis decides that there are both good and bad creatures, and he can work with the good ones to help save his father.
The actors and actresses act pretty well, and even though I have not read the books, the story-line was easy enough to understand after the first 15-20 minutes or so. One major character that caused me to enjoy watching the movie was Mulch Diggums (Josh Gad) who delivered quite a few comedic lines, and, all in all, was a hilarious character. Furthermore, the special effects were incredible. However, the actual plot and characters weren’t very developed, and the little conflict that was established was resolved pretty quickly.
For these reasons, I would recommend this movie to people who are interested in science-fiction and fantasy movies to pass time. Overall, I would give this movie 3 stars out of 5. – Anika Nayak.
