Sam’s Movie Mania- Spider-Man: No Way Home

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

Spiderman: No Way Home is the newest addition to the MCU. It extravagantly one-ups even Avengers Endgame in scale and fails to meet expectations on few (if any at all) fronts.

The movie picks up right where its predecessor leaves off. Peter Parker’s identity has been revealed and his life is thrown into shambles. In an instant, his entire world has been thrown into a blender and Parker struggles to cope with his predicament. Then, he approaches Doctor Strange with the request that Strange casts a spell making everyone forget the true identity of Spiderman. When this spell goes horribly wrong, a hole in the multiverse is ripped and Parker is left to clean up the mess he made.

Based off of the trailers I thought this might be a disappointing experience. It seemed like there wouldn’t be much depth to the film and it would just be two and a half hours of big fight scenes and battles. But this was not the case at all, the plot behind the incredible action sequences also felt cared for and fleshed out as well. The plot wasn’t just one big excuse to bring in all these characters from different universes, it was substantive and all the battles and events felt justified. The story was not overlooked which is a huge positive, it makes the film a much more complete picture and gives a well-rounded viewing experience.

Don’t get me wrong though, the action sequences, set pieces, and fight scenes were still very prominent and were executed stupendously. Each of the set pieces was very distinct and felt unique. With battles taking place in an open field, a laboratory, and by the statue of liberty, each scene felt different and the film was not repetitive in that sense.
The visual aspect of this movie was also impeccable. From Electro’s lightning to Sandman’s sand sculptures, everything was just so visually pleasing and it all really popped off the screen.

Overall this was a very rewarding picture for a comic book movie and definitely was a top-tier MCU film. If you are looking for a fun action film with some real substance then this is a great one to enjoy.
