The Martian (2015)

The Martian is a 2015 film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon as Mark Watney. It is based on Andy Weir’s debut 2011 novel of the same name.

First, the film by itself was amazing. It was a perfect blend of funny and serious, and kept me roused for what will happen next. I loved Matt Damon’s performance as Mark Watney; Damon accurately captured the energetic and intelligent attitude of Watney.

Second, compared to the book, the film did amazing in adapting it into a screenplay. I was curious as to how the film would undertake Watney’s science-filled daily logs. Although the film definitely toned down the quantity of his scientific explanations, there were several instances that displayed Watney’s genius. The CGI and filming locations were visually stunning and definitely brought the book to life.
