Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010)
Rated PG, 1 hour 34 minutes

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a comedy film that follows the hilarious adventures of Greg Heffley, a middle school student trying to survive the ups and downs of life. The film begins with Greg Heffley entering middle school, where he aspires to be popular and successful. Greg’s best friend, Rowley Jefferson, is eager to join the safety patrol, a group of students who help maintain order in the school. Greg, however, has loftier aspirations and dreams of becoming famous in middle school. He believes that popularity and success will come if he can avoid the “cheese touch,” a playground rumor that started when a piece of cheese was left on the blacktop for several weeks. Greg and Rowley’s friendship is tested when Rowley decides to join the safety patrol, much to Greg’s dismay.  Throughout the school year, Greg faces various challenges, including embarrassing incidents at school and disagreements with Rowley. He tries to impress his classmates by joining clubs and participating in school activities but often ends up in embarrassing situations. One of Greg’s major goals is to be featured in the school yearbook, believing that it will secure his place in middle school fame. Greg is attempting all this while also trying to navigate family dynamics, including his rivalry with his older brother, Rodrick. Rodrick is a teenage drummer in a heavy metal band called “Löded Diper” and often torments Greg. Meanwhile, their mother, Susan, encourages Greg to bond with Rodrick. Greg’s adventures continue with his attempts to impress Holly Hills, a classmate he has a crush on. He aspires to invite her to the school’s Valentine’s Day dance but faces numerous setbacks. The film hits its climax with Greg’s realization that true friendship and success don’t come from trying to be someone he’s not. He makes up with Rowley and decides to enjoy the remaining days of middle school. This is a great film for families as it teaches children the importance of friendship and sticking with loyal people in life, I would highly recommend it.
