The Housemaid by Freida McFadden
The Housemaid Series #1
(2022) 338 pages

I’ve always been an avid thriller and horror enthusiast, but I’ve never been able to gain the courage to read an actual thriller novel before. This is my first one, and it is surprisingly good. There are many moments in this book that caused me to stop and pause, as I could not believe what was happening. I also love the fact that it was an easy page turner that didn’t require a lot of piecing together and critical thinking. I don’t want to spoil the ending, but it was certainly an unexpected one that caused me to feel quite satisfied in the end. As the first kind of horror book I have read, it is a really good one and will cause me to consider to read even more similar books in the future. Overall if anyone is a horror or thriller fan who wants a fun and edge-of-your-seat causing book, then this one can surely satisfy your needs.

The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe
(1843) 31 pages

On first glance “The Tell-Tale Heart” is amazing, and it only gets better after you read through it! It is an amazing thriller mystery story that keeps you on your toes. First published in January of 1843, it still remains its bone-chilling thrill to today.

Summary:
“The Tell-Tale Heart” starts from a first person perspective-a madman. He murders and dismembers an old man due to his cataracts that bothered him. When he was questioned by the police, he gets overcome by guilt and admits to the police that he committed the murder. Poe creates a mysterious creepy mood through the unnamed narrators denial of his madness and the old man’s detailed description.

Lesson:
Even with the suspense and mystery Poe comes through with a chilling moral. The moral of the story is that a guilty conscience can take control. The unstable narrator blames the murder on the old man’s eye, but with a close inspection of the story, you can tell that the narrator relishes in the act of stalking the old man. The eye is simply an excuse for the murder he plans to carry out.

Overall:
Overall, I would recommend the book to readers across the globe. It creates a chill like no other and suspense that will haunt you for weeks after you read the story.
