Moana 2 (2024)
Rated PG 1 hour 40 minutes

Finally the long awaited sequel of  Moana adventure has finally arrived in theaters, bringing my family and friends back to the happiness that awaits in the South Pacific. In Moana 2, Moana, appearing aged quite a bit, embarks on a new journey to discover the hidden island of Motufetu. Being tasked with lifting a mysterious curse and uniting the people of the ocean, she continues her journey alongside our well known friend Maui and new character. Introducing the additions to the crew Moni, Loto, and Kele. Even though sequels are often anticipated to see the comparison. But just focusing on the 2nd movie it has displayed a wide variety of beautiful visuals and heartfelt moments.

Keeping your eyes dialed in are rich depictions of the ocean, islands… well basically a replica of life alongside the magical elements from Moana’s life. The crew bring humor and emotional depth to the story but maintain the story progression creating a lift upbeat feel.. The new songs, while catchy and fun, don’t quite surpass the unforgettable soundtrack of the original. Still, they add to the film’s uniqueness and provide tunes for my younger sister to bother me with.

Even though my family’s reviews on Moana 2 are mixed, with some praising it and others criticizing its lack of originality overall it was a delightful experience. Even if it doesn’t reach the heights of its first hit it is still a go to for when you need entertainment for the family. The storyline plays it safe eventually ending with the cliche smooth yet predictable ending.

Despite the predictability, the audiences my sister and brothers age 7-12 seem to resonate well with the overarching themes. One particularly noted that it was an enjoyable yet interesting film.

Ultimately, Moana 2 succeeds in framing some of the glory the first film so beloved. While it may not rise to its potential it remains an enjoyable journey filled with laughter, heart, and the beauty of culture. Fans of Moana and her world will likely find joy in this sequel, even if it leaves them yearning for just a bit more.
