On Martin Luther King Jr. Day this year (January 17, 2022), we had a Read Woke Title Swap on Zoom. Teens and librarians, from different departments of the Syosset Public Library, spoke about what books they had read.
What is Read Woke?
The Read Woke Challenge was founded by Cicely Lewis at Meadowcreek High School in Georgia.
Read Woke books are books that:
- Challenge a social norm
- Give voice to the voiceless
- Provide information about a group that has been disenfranchised
- Seek to challenge the status quo
- Have a protagonist from an underrepresented or oppressed group
