Virtual Community Service through the Bristal

Some Updates – Going Digital

Hi everyone,

As you know, the Syosset Public Library is currently closed due to public health concerns related to the COVID-19 outbreak. During these upcoming days, the library may be physically closed, but we are working hard behind the scenes to bring you digital content, resources, even virtual programs, so please stay tuned! A word from our Director, Christine Belling:

Other things to look for – virtual community service projects that you can do from home because we want to know what you’ve been reading/watching/doing:

If you need a library card to access our online resources, you’ll see that we’ve added a form on our library homepage so you can get a temporary card that will grant you online privileges.

Here’s a link to that form: https://www.syossetlibrary.org/component/rsform/form/37-digital-library-card-registration-form

Follow us on Instagram: @syossetlibraryteens and Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Syosset-Public-Library-TeenSpace-80618123602/ for more updates!

Thank you and stay safe and healthy until we “meet” again!

Harriet (2019)

Directed by Kasi Lemmons (Silence of the Lambs) and starring Cynthia Erivo (Bad Times at the El Royale) as the titular character, Harriet beautifully tells the powerful story of Minty Ross’ transformation into legendary abolitionist Harriet Tubman.

Cynthia Erivo’s riveting performance realistically portrays the emotion and drive behind one of the most influential figures in antebellum American history. Empowered by her devout loyalty to God, Harriet Tubman surmounts numerous obstacles across the country over a critically acclaimed soulful gospel soundtrack that includes the award-winning “Stand Up”.

Harriet is based around the idea of “be free or die” that Harriet Tubman held throughout her life, and its gorgeous choreography combined with intense dialogue and punctual pacing creates an unforgettable experience. Overall, Harriet definitely recommended, although its prevalent use of racial slurs may deter some from watching.

Thanks again, Griffin!
